This weekend the bands will once again fill with the unmistakable sound of RTTY signals as the CQ WPX RTTY Contest returns on February 14–15, 2026.

For 48 hours, stations around the world will be chasing prefixes, pushing rates, and testing both operating skill and station performance across 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters.

WPX is different. It is not about CQ Zones or DXCC entities. It is about prefixes. Every unique prefix worked counts once toward your final multiplier total, regardless of band. That simple concept turns the contest into a strategic balance between strong runnning and careful multiplier hunting.

SZ1A will be on the air throughout the contest period, active across all five bands as conditions evolve through the weekend.

What We’ll Be Sending

The exchange in CQ WPX RTTY is:

RST plus a progressive serial number, starting with 001 for the first contact.

Accuracy matters. Clean copying and disciplined operating are critical in a contest where every prefix counts.

The Team on the Air

This weekend the SZ1A lineup will be:

  • SV1JG
  • SV1BDO
  • SV1BJW
  • SV1CIB
  • SV1DPJ
  • SV1RRX
  • SV3SCW

With a strong multi-operator team, we plan to keep the station active across bands as propagation shifts. Expect us to be running when rates are strong and searching actively when new prefixes appear.

The Challenge of WPX

Scoring in WPX combines total QSO points multiplied by the number of different prefixes worked. QSO point values vary depending on band and geographic relationship between stations, with higher values awarded for intercontinental and low-band contacts.

One of the reasons we genuinely enjoy WPX is that the scoring structure feels more balanced. While DX contacts and low-band QSOs are rewarded appropriately, the prefix-based multiplier system gives stations in many geographic locations a realistic opportunity to compete strongly.

That makes WPX especially attractive. Stations that might feel handicapped by geography in other major contests often find WPX to be a contest where strategy, discipline, and operating skill can level the field in a meaningful way.

It is a contest that rewards smart decisions. Good band selection, accurate logging, and careful multiplier tracking can make a significant difference by the end of the weekend.

And of course, RTTY demands precision. Timing, signal clarity, and station reliability are everything.

Read the Official Rules

If you are planning to participate, take a few minutes to review the complete and official rules before the contest begins:

The rules include detailed information about operating categories, serial number requirements, power limits, scoring, and log submission procedures.

See You on the Bands

If you hear SZ1A calling, give us a call. Whether you are chasing prefixes, building your score, or simply enjoying the rhythm of RTTY, we look forward to sharing the weekend with you.

These are the contests we truly enjoy operating. The energy, the strategy, the global reach, and the constant pace make WPX something special every year.

We hope to work you somewhere on the bands!

Good luck to everyone taking part, and have a fantastic contest weekend.
