Radio Amateur Association of Western Greece (RAAWG) is founded in 1985.
Our headquarters are in Kamaroula, Agrinio in perfecture of Aetoloakarnania in West Greece. Initially we had the call SV1AFA. We got the call SZ1A in 2004.
The main population center, where the most of our members are coming, is Agrinio, a town with a population of about 100,000 people.
Our original goal is to join all amateurs in West Greece, to put some repeaters in nearby mountains, to organize courses for candidate hams, to educate them and to offer as volunteers to our community.
At 2009 we created a contest station, the first Club’s contest station in Greece. This project is really special because our intention is not to make a station and offer it to our members but to everyone. We want to offer this station to every fellow ham who wants to use it. We want this way to make more hams to enjoy contesting. This is why we believe that contestting is the future of our hobby…
Except Contest Station SZ1A, we have to maintain two voice repeaters, APRS digipeaters and one hf station (in our office in Agrinio). We count about 40-50 members at the present time (unfortunately financial crisis the last years in Greece has reduced dramatically our members’ number).
If you listen SZ1A in a contest, please call us and after the QSO, spot us.
If you want to donate to RAAWG, you can do it via paypal (please fill the contact form and we will give you our email).
