SX17ASTRO On the Air for the 17th National Amateur Astronomy Camp

We are pleased to announce that the special callsign SX17ASTRO will be active from Friday, July 25th to Friday, August 8th, 2025, in celebration of the 17th National Amateur Astronomy Camp (Π.Ε.Ε.Α.), which will take place in the fir-covered mountains of Drymonas, Thermo on July 25–27, 2025.

The Radio Amateur Association of Western Greece (SZ1A) will participate in the event and will be on the air throughout the entire period using the special callsign, highlighting the close connection between amateur radio and the astronomical community.

Radio amateurs who contact SX17ASTRO will be eligible to receive commemorative awards based on the number of band slots (different bands) they work:

  • 🥉 Bronze Award – 3 QSOs on different bands
  • 🥈 Silver Award – 4 QSOs on different bands
  • 🥇 Gold Award – 5 QSOs on different bands
  • 💎 Diamond Award – 6 QSOs on different bands

About the 17th National Amateur Astronomy Camp

The National Amateur Astronomy Camp (Πανελλήνια Εξόρμηση Ερασιτεχνών Αστρονόμων) is one of the most important annual gatherings for amateur astronomers in Greece. This year, it is hosted by the Astronomy and Astrophysics Society of Western Greece “Heracles”, with the support of the municipalities of Thermo and Agrinio.

The event includes:

  • Astronomy talks, workshops, and sky mapping
  • Night sky observation at 1,200 meters elevation
  • Astrophotography and children’s astronomy activities
  • Hiking and cave exploration in the surrounding area
